ok so I've always thought that the fastest opening time for KMP was with build 1428(the latest from kyh).
I use the K-AMP5.ksf skin, dunno if it's a "light" one ?
anyway, here are the settings in Apptimer(I had to check them all, as we want to know how fast the app is ready for use...not how fast its window shows up) :

tests were conducted on XP SP3 with an overclocked Q6600 and all files were copied in a ramdisk(PC1066 dual channel)
AppTimer is available here :

KMP 1433 d7
KMPlayer.exe - 5 executions
0.2656
0.2500
0.2499

0.2812
0.2812
MPC latest build from clsid
mplayerc.exe - 5 executions
0.0937
0.1092
0.1093
0.1093
0.1093
MPCHC build 849
mplayerc.exe - 5 executions

zplayer.exe - 5 executions
0.1875

so clearly MPC is the winner...ZP6 is a tad faster than KMP.
and KMP 1433 d7 is just as fast as 1428 d7 :)

using 1433 d7 with the default skin decompressed, and half sized(removed all the stuff in korean etc..)..it's even faster :)

Hi santaklaus, what's your OS system? Vista ?
Have you make all your tests with KMP installed from the setup?
I ask this because I've noticed that not using the setup decreased the load time.
Can you make some tests on your side?
Thanks

I guess XP was used for all tests.
tests were conducted on XP SP3 with an overclocked Q6600 and all files were copied in a ramdisk(PC1066 dual channel)
Can you provide a link to developers homepage? Other users could test it the same way you did.

hey Peuj, XP SP3
I installed it from the setup(no choice as I don't have 7zip), but I didn't run the wizard.
well the fastest opening time is with the delphi7 version and the decompressed default skin without korean stuff on a ramdisk....then it's 0.2343

Excuse me but doesn't this measure only the startup time? Shouldn't the time it takes to actually start playing some movie be measured?

well I don't think this can be measured, and anyway as soon as KMP is open and ready it's only a matter of creating the proper DS graph.
but KMP is 2.5x slower than MPC to open
you have to wait 2.5 seconds before it actually opens the movie/music file :(

On my machine it is 5 seconds before mpc starts but if I start a movie from favourites it is another 15-20 seconds waiting.
I have a pentium4, 2,4 mhz, so not the newest.

favorites ? 20 secs ?
copy it all on a ramdisk :D

You want me to copy some 300 gig to a ram disk? :)
Well, I've actually gone back to an older copy of zoomplayer for now, that's 3-4 seconds in starting a movie.
It crashes badly sometimes and I'd rather have something more modern so I will be keeping an eye on kmp.

well make a 50mb ramdisk, and install KMP on it, plus ffdshow, etc etc ;)

right now the biggest problem with KMPLAYER is the slow start of playback.
So that should really be fixed.
