View Full Version : Video is playing slower than sound, why?

Hello, I am new to this forum. I recently bought a Samsung HD camcorder. The camera works great. I am trying to save the videos to the PC so I can delete them from the card and take some more. The software I got in the box didn't work so I went to Samsung's website. They provided KMPlayer on their website. Now I can at least play the videos on the computer and they have sound, which I couldn't do before. But, the sound and video are not insync with each other. The sound is moving much faster than the video. I have a scandisk model. I bought the fastest scandisk available so that can't be the cause, I am assuming.
If there is something already on here I apologize for starting another thread, I just wouldn't know where to begin looking.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. My wife keeps asking me if I fixed the camcorder so we can get videos for my daughter's first Christmas. The PRESSURE!

Audio/Video desync in HD files is typical for a low powered computer. Judging from your Ctrl+tab info your PC is not strong enough to handle 60fps HD. 30fps should work, but 60fps is very demanding.
Your only options are to upgrade/use a different PC or try CoreAVC decoder, which will lower consumption but it is not freeware. Even with CoreAVC tho it is not guaranteed to help.

Google for CoreAVC. Try using SuperSpeed mode in KMPlayer.

By the way: with my quite slow computer, HD movies (1280x720 resolution, progressive, 30 fps, H264 codec) sometimes have video/audio asyncronization, but only with KMPlayer. While in MPC Home Cinema they are played correctly.
I'm not sure, whether it is a question of settings or of players themselves, but I'd suggest to try MPC Home Cinema, just in case.

similar problem here...
i think the problem is in the kmplayer external subtitle module
because whenever it is enabled, the a/v wont sync... (in my case)
but when it is disabled, everything is working perfectly...
this problem doesnt appear in MPC indeed...
edit: i have fixed the problem...
for me just use evr with subtitle external module and always use kmp video transform filter. sync and no frame drops/jitter at all

MPC HC uses a h264 decoder that throws off decoding to your graphics card so CPU is not used. Talking apples and oranges here :P
There's been requests for its decoder to be implemented into KMP but I doubt it will happen. There are some posts here in the forums that talk about forcing the decoder manually in KMP tho.

Hi there. I have the same problem, in KMP AND MPC:HC.
I don't know much about High Def playback and all the codec complexities and such, as my previous computer couldn't handle it and I'm just getting in to it now.
The advice above was that on a low power computer, 60fps might be a problem but 30fps should be OK. My Ctrl-tab info is below but as you'll see, the file is running at 23fps and my shiny new computer should be able to handle anything, right...?
Slightly unusual point about my setup - I have a Hyundai LCD TV connected to my Asus EAH3650 via component leads, and thats currently my only display. This runs OK now but it was a bit of a pain getting it right - its now running on 720p enhanced, which is actually 1152x648. I don't know if this "enhanced" thing is a feature of my graphics card or a standard thing.
One last point - the info below shows I'm running Windows 2003 server - this is actually Windows XP 64bit, I think it just shows up like this.
This is a work in progress, if I find a solution I will report back, but in the meantime any help you guys have would be appreciated. The main reason I upgraded was so I could play HD stuff, and I still can't :-(
Ctrl-tab info follows, thanks for your help.

this is actually Windows XP 64bit
Why would you use a outdated abandoned OS? If you are going with 64-bit, use Vista x64.

Meh - scary new operating system. I haven't found anything that XP doesn't do well (until now, apparently), so I don't see a reason to upgrade and have to learn a whole new way of doing things... Is XP x64 flawed then?
The scary part is that on all these other posts, people say that MPC works fine, but it doesn't for me, I get the same problem. Assumedly it is a gradual process but it becomes noticable after about 10-15 minutes. If I then skip to another point in the file, it is back in sync.
Thanks for your help.

fishkake, just notice, that you play the file which is 2 times greater than one we discussed before - 1920x816 (1920x1080 before cropping). And if it also has progressive scan, it will be very demanding for computer productivity.
But anyway, your computer seems to be quite powerful to play it correctly, probably it is really a question of OS...

OK, this is now fixed. I found a similar thread on another forum - the problem was that the in-built codec (or decoder, or splitter, or whatever the hell it is - I'm not up on the terminology yet!) only knows how to use one of my processors. I have a quad core, and one was maxed while the others lay dormant. I'm trying to put a screenshot in from my local drivem tis might upload or might just link, don't know yet.
file://c:/tskmgr.jpg
The solution was to install CoreAVC. I'm on a free trial at the moment, I find it ironic that we are expected to pay for a piece of software whose only purpose is to play pirated material :-)
I mean, you know, movie trailers and other legitimate media. Thanks for your help, and Merry Christmas!

OK, the screenshot didn't work, but I'm sure you catch my drift...
aking80
12-26-2008, 11:03 AM
You don't have to use CoreAVC, you have a 3650 so you can use hardware acceleration and have virtually no CPU usage even on 1080p.
But yea, I always advise to not use the built-in codecs. In my experience they cause more harm than good and are only there for people who want a lazy setup - ie like VLC.

Hello again. I'm back, still the same rig but now I run Windows Vista x64.
How do I do this hardware acceleration thing suggested above? I have so much power and no idea how to use it, I feel like George Bush a few years ago...
