Hi,

I'm using 2.9.4.1434 version of KMPlayer.
I'm storing my files in a samba server and trying to play them with my XP machines with KMPlayer (version above), and one thing happend to me lately and I cannot find why..

any DivX/XVid, wmv, mpeg files plays perfectly well
but H.264 files (mkv files) takes long time (almost a minute roughly) before it starts playing the files, and there's a 100MBit connections between the machines. Once it's start playing the mkv file, it plays correctly (and superbly!)

I checked to see if it's my hardware fault with VLC latest, and with VLC that delay is much shorter - around 5-6 seconds!

Is there some settings which I can improve this issue? it's only happends with very large MKV files (9-10GB). Anything smallers (350, 700, 1GB) plays almost instantly.

VLC is not a Directshow player. Try MPC.

(I assume you meant Media Player Classic)

Works perfectly with it, took about 3-4 seconds to start playing (although it seems that MPC doesn't have some buffering mechanism).

Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?
- try superspeed mode (F2 - General - Playback - Work priority)
- try to use the same decoders/splitters as MPC (you assumed correct) :)

Rolled back to the latest stable
Selected "none" at the internal codecs
Used ffmpeg-tryout codecs instead of the internal codecs
Checked my samba services on my Linux file server (no errors there), and restarted it

With all those steps, I can play the movie fine, it takes about 90 seconds to open a 12GB H.264 mkv movie (although once it's start playing, it plays well, internal or external movie). Switching codecs doesn't help.

Other suggestions? :)

Other suggestions?

Some AntiMaleware products (AntiVirus, AntiSpyware) analyze mkvs heavily without any reason. This consumes much resources and the file is in used by the product.

Disable your AntiMaleware products just to test if this speeds up starting. If it helps reconfigure your product.

EDIT: Also you could defrag(ment) your harddisk.

Bastik, thanks for you comment, but:
1. The problem only happends on kmplayer, not with MPC nor VLC.
2. The file is stored on a file server, and both other programs show it after 3-4 seconds.
3. If it was an Anti Malware/Anti Virus issue, it would affect MPC & VLC, and it's not.

I think KMP had some problems with network drives (and maybe file servers) in the past. I don“t know if this was addressed. This needs to be tested by the developer...but I cannot help with that.
