I have been in the IT industry for 16 years. I have been quietly supporting and actively recommending nothing but KMP to everyone, meaning I have helped install it on hundreds if not thousands of systems in the last 3 years alone.
I do understand that this recent release may not be a finished product, but i state that all the good users and supporters of this great application are being greatly insulted when they see something like this happen.
This shouldn't happen to supporters of a fine product.
I am thoroughly dissapointed and quite upset to see a toolbar especially with no option to skip installing it.
So I say,
Unless the ASK toolbar goes, and no other toolbars / spyware /spam appear (the option to not install it should be there). Everyone should just drop KMP.
I do not care for any other Media player out there at the moment, but I would go to MPC-HC happily.
I do understand why such programs are distributed with good applications, But people need to take a stand and not use or distribute software that has such programs.

I'm not happy with the toolbar... but it can be unchecked during installation.
I say nobody would install any toolbar if it doesn't come with other software. Crap that no one needs...
I would say, dropping the toolbar for a donation option would be probably better.

As we discussed that long long time before I agree again.

I wonder if an ad at the bottom of the forums page or before a download starts (disabled for registered users? - or not), would provide as much revenue as the toolbar... That would certainly be less of an annoyance.

I opened the Executable with 7-Zip before Installing, and noticed a Folder loaded with "Ask Files". I also made a note of what the name of the Folder was and the list of Files it had. I decide to take a chance to see if it would install any Files or other Junk if I "Unchecked" the Option to Install it. After the Install, I went back to the Installation Folder and it wasn't there along with the other Files / Folders. After that, I did a Complete Search of my System and didn't find anything.
I'm satisfied.

You can "sandbox" a setup for check the install files; see [Only registered and activated users can see links]
If you don't check Ask toolbar, clean install, just one request from AskInstallChecker to toolbar.ask.com, for statistic i think.

I wouldn't be surprised in the future that kmplayer would only allow advance features if you install the ask toolbar. Foxit pdf reader is doing this tactic.

Would surprise me either.
A once great player, now being released as a final, yet still TONS of bugs, but hey! The Ask toolbar works perfectly fine !

Just to mention a few things - I assume the KMP developers are working on a Windows XP PC - which is why the installing options and other things seem to work fine on XP, but what about the Windows Vista and the few people who have Windows 7 (legally) - as you can see some features for those are not or not fully supported.
For example, the madshi renderer, a very interesting and good new feature, but when that is selected, the aero theme of the 2 OSes mentioned above turns to basic when opening a movie and using this renderer. In this case I can stick with the Enhanced C/A Vista Renderer which does the job more than fine, with great engine for subtitles too!
Like I said in a post before, in the other ask toolbar thread ([Only registered and activated users can see links]), as long as there's no option of saying no to AskToolbar in the installer of KMP - the Ask installer is included in the KMP installer and does not appear to people who have security suites installed as it is classified as adware and it gets blocked automatically, so that's why some people don't even get to say "no" to the AskInstaller, which in this case it means it doesn't get installed because it is blocked.
I haven't tested, but Asktoolbar installer could also work as a "silent" install (it installs automatically without user's aproval) if there's no security suite blocking it, and in this case it does install and users have to remove it manually from control panel.

madVR can't be selected in DVD mode (it's already reported to developer). When you select it, Vista Aero theme gets disabled but it's because other renderer is selected instead (look at it in Filters menu).

I tested on an HD video trailer, not a DVD. Thanks, I managed to work it in order to keep aero theme, but the subtitles are not displayed - it's not the KMP's fault here - it happens the same on MP-HC. I know there was something in the main post of the madVR developer from Doom9 forum about subtitles not being supported.

the ask toolbar doesn't bother me. I don't mind the dev trying to get some financial support. it's not as if ask is a rogue company installing rootkit s or something. worst case scenario: it gets installed without my permission and I just need to uninstall it.
what DOES worry me is there's only one dev it seems. I assume that he has a regular job too. It's amazing what he has achieved so far, but given all the changing video technology out there, how can he keep up with other projects with multiple devs?
