I read the thread by ZLord re: Ask Toolbar and why he was no longer using KMP. There were a few replies stating that the user could uncheck the option to install Ask Toolbar.
I downloaded the Installer for KMP v2.9.4.1435 from the "News and Announcements" forum, and ran it.
There was no option, that I could see, to install/not install the Ask Toolbar.
I made screenies of the install process:

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

Am I missing something here?
There was also nothing about the toolbar in the EULA.
After it installed, it changed my default search engines in IE and Firefox, as well as the homepage for both.
I realize I can uninstall the toolbar and switch everything back, but there should be a clear notification of what's being installed, and a way to opt out of installing the toolbar.
As long as it remains like this, I'm going back to MPCHC.

After the installation process, the ask toolbar window should appear automatically:

What OS are you using?

Pantuflo, I got that ask.toolbar screen when I first installed the 1435 (I will call it RC1), but when I now installed the official 1435, it was like boony described.

I always get the toolbar window (I have the latest kmp.exe)... I've only tried it with Windows XP in a sandboxed VM, I don't want that to be installed in my system :o.

Spanish users are happy with the custom installer :p.

Hi, I just registered... and have the same problem, I installed last Kmplayer in windows 2008 SP2 and 2008 R2 and NEVER  get asked about this shit being installed in my machine, very nasty behavior, I would support this action because its harmless if you can chose not install, like utorrent, but this is not the case, I'm also very disappointed with the program now, so many bugs not a simple task like update all codecs is done after almost one year without updates, Pandora.TV is destroying the KMPlayer, this is not news, very good programs were destroyed after acquisitions (see Azures now Vuze), I still hope the development resume and KMPlayer back to top of players.

tl;dr Please at least fix this toolbar problem, even the moderators are against this new "feature".

What OS are you using?

XP SP3

Sounds like it's hit or miss on the ASK screen with some people.
I may try on the next update.

I thought that Pandora T.V. ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) would be able to support this program when they acquired it, why the toolbar?

It is very disappointing to wait so long for the new version and to get the bundle with an unwanted toolbar. :(

Ok I installed it just now and got the option to not install it. However, KMP is acting lame (surprise surprise) so I uninstalled it. Went to install it again and guess what? I'm now the unhappy owner of ASK crap. Now I gotta get this junk off. Thanks Pandora.

I am a very big fan and hardcore supporter of KMPlayer, but I am a supporter of free KMPlayer and not adware! It seems that some people who have naturally installed one of the good security suites like Kaspersky, Eset smart security or others, have an automatic blocker of the ask toolbar installer. And that is really a good thing - why do I need ask toolbar installed on my PC if I KNOW for certain that I don't need/want it? Oh and, this ask toolbar installer makes calls home, to its site, but my firewall blocks it as I set it. Not being paranoid or anything, but even DivX installers have the option to deny the installation of other things bundled with it, like Google Chrome.

The idea is that it can be done, to have a yes/no option to install asktoolbar.

i think there is a problem with installing on a certain windows machine. as i installed mine on windows 7 and it did not ask me for the option to install or not for the ask toolbar. i do not mine that they are including the ask toolbar in the setup. as long we have an option to say yes or no to the setup. we should not be asking them to remove this option if this is the way for them to get support for their software. well this is my opinion.

I had installed the latest version 1435 on my WinXP PC a few days back, and while installation, option was there to say no to the Ask Toolbar. Fair enough.

The same problem. I have installed build 1435 final around 8 times on different PCs all running XP SP3 Pro and it installs automatically without the smallest hint of a notification. I need to uninstall and change home page, search engine etc. of both in IE and firefox back to my custom settings. May be there is a bug that does silent installation of ASK toolbar in XP and not in other windows versions. Please do the needful developers. It is the best player out there and combining with KLite Mega Codec pack I have had no codec problems till now when playing .mkv, .avi (XviD, H.264 etc), even even latest .flvs play well (Earlier KMP used to crash like anything without the KLite pack and I needed to have a seperate flv player installed, also certain types of .avi did not play at all either giving error messages or just playing the audio track). I always install the KLite pack first then install the KMP and while installing KLite I select Lots of stuff with out player and don't associate extensions with WMP.

Damnit! Took over my browser without asking and took over my google search also,
Since Pandora took over there has been just more bugs and more bloatware.
NOT cool! :(

yep, not cool, and this is starting to look like a petition-against-adware-in-kmp kind of thread :D not sure if this is what the thread starter meant, but I hope this leads to a good result.:D

I just tried build v2.9.4.1436. I clearly uncheck the options for ask.com during the installation (I always get used do this when installing any). BUT eventually the ask.com toolbar was still installed for IE even with Firefox and changed my default search engine to it.

This is absolutely annoying. Please fix it in future release.

BTW I did it in Win7

Yes, it's happening to me too. I did a reinstall of kmplayer and clearly unchecked the toolbar garbage, yet when I went to open firefox it hijacked search settings and put a disgusting bar on there. Also I've noticed if you bypass the ask section while accidentally leaving it checked and go back to turn it off it still installs it. Kmplayer has lost its way since pandora took them over.

I haven't updated since 2.9.3.1428... I don't want a "Pandora TV" version of this great player installed on my computer; and absolutely NO bloated toolbar version.

I wouldn't have hesitated to recommend this player to others in the past, but I won't when it's likely they will accidently install yet another crapware toolbar on their systems.

What a shame. The older version I use almost daily is great...

Download uniextract and extract the KMplayer.exe and now you can leave Ask

Use the 7z or PeaZip (Free) to extract the contents of the installer.

There's also a "clean" installer in translations sub-forum:

Having a sponsor is one thing - not asking users the other.

Goodbye KMPlayer!

Including adaware hurts the image of kmplayer. It will not stop me from using this excellent media player, but I am grateful that Pantuflo has included a version without the Ask Toolbar and I would encourage Pandora to remove the adaware from the official release: kmplayer deservedly has a great reputation, please don't tarnish it.

I installed the latest Beta and the Ask install window came up, but when I installed the same on my brother's PC there was no option and it just dumped that garbage on automatically and I had to manually remove it.

This toolbar crap is a plague on once-good software (and not just KMP).
