Not bad!!
But we cannot make a good comparison because there are many thing that does not match between the two player.

Not a bad player ... I would say a heavily modified MPC-HC. But it follows a different philosophy than KMP. KMP lets people choose, but also providing great defaults. This comparison isn´t very honest... (KMP ugly? Sure :/ )
I just tried a few avi and mkv files, and also a DVD. All worked fine.
It uses EVR as a video renderer, but I don´t really know about the rest. Maybe Gabest filters?

I tried to play *.flv but splayer's quality is realy bad!
May be is's a important weaknesses of it!
