View Full Version : (fixed) Subtitles don't show up (on network)
I just installed KMPlayer locally on a machine at school. No problem at all. But then I installed the program on our network. No problem with the program but the subtitles just won't show up! Very strange. No problem if I run the program that is on the local hard disk. But when I run the copy on drive S, the subtitles just won't show. Please help! :o
1. How do you open it? eg. [Only registered and activated users can see links]
2. What type of subtitles is it? eg. srt
I have the files on our local network. Subtitles are .SRT
The subtitles work OK with MediaPlayer Classic and VLC. But both these players are inferior to KMPlayer. At least for the reason I intend to use these films at school with my pupils. So a solution would be highly appreciated.
Edit: I just tried at home and installed KMPlayer on my NAS. No subtitles! :(
Edit 2: When I load the subtitles from my NAS, I can't use the Subtitles | Bottom Margin thing. But OK if I load the same subtitles from C:
I'm going nuts...
As for now, the player only finds .smi subtitles when openning file with [Only registered and activated users can see links]
Thanks! I converted the subtitles to .SMI. But no change, I'm afraid - still no subtitles. And I don't open the file with [Only registered and activated users can see links] My files are on our local network on drive S:
More suggestions, please!
According to the author, he has no problem with displaying subtitles in local network(starting with //directories.../xxx.avi).
What exactly does he mean with "(starting with //directories.../xxx.avi)."
I'm having troubles so I'm very much interested in help! Specific help, that is.
Now I'm using VLC (VCL?) but I prefer KMPlayer. But it does not work for me. :-(
Edit: I really appreciate your help!
He seems to say that the full path of filename on local network area starts with \\.
You can confirm a file path to play on the left top screen when pressing tab key. Check if it is starting with \\.
The file path is not shown at all. Only the file name.
Edit: But the problem does not lie in the subtitle files. They can be anywhere: on the local disk, on the network, on a USB stick. The problem is with the location of the player itself. KMPlayer must reside on the local disk for the subtitles to work. If I install the player on the network or NAS, the subtitles never work.
Thanks for your help. But now I've found GOMPlayer. Works like a dream! :) So you can close this thread. Or whatever...
Well,
Anyway good to hear you find an alternative to kmp.
There seems to be something wrong which is not figured out yet.
There were no similar reports in korean forum and one of the forum member reported that he could not find the problem you'd mentioned.
I just wonder what makes the difference.
Yes, so do I! Well, thanks for your time and efforts! Much appreciated!
If you find something, just let me know that. Once the problem is figured out, I believe it will be fixed easily.
For example, try to make the filename of the video and subtitles short having only english characters. (Do not insert blank characters too)
eg)
abcd.avi
abcd.srt
By the way, what's the full path of the video file and subtitles on local network? Both of them are in the same folder? Is the player installed on local network? (try to install kmp in your system currently using)
I ran into some unforseen problems with GOM Player. :(
So I'm back here again. Tested today (before reading this) with moving the .AVI and the subtitles to the KM Player folder. No change. Copied the whole lot do another drive - no change. Tomorrow I'll try to change the names of the .AVI and the subtitles.
And yes, the player is installed on the local network. And that is exactly what does NOT work. When the program (KMPlayer) is installed on the school network (or on my NAS at home), the subtitles do not work (no matter where the subs are located). Very annoying, to say the least. I really prefer KM Player to all the other alternatives.
Edit: And yes, both the .AVI and the sub file are located in the same folder.
Edit 2: Two things I do like about GOM Player: 1. It can show bold, italics, etc 2. It loads the subtitles automatically. Perhaps these features are available in KM as well. Have I missed them?
Edit 3: NAS at home: renamed .AVI and corresponding subtitle file to abc.avi and abc.srt and put them in the KMPlayer folder. No luck! Still no subtitles. I am at my wit's end. *sobbing*

If you can't see it with kmplayer, just attach the subtitles. It can be fixed easily.
Can you show me the full path of the movie files?
"Just attach the subtitles..." Sorry, I don't fully understand what you mean? Attach where? Send them to you?
Path from my NAS at home: L:\Mina filmer\Fawlty Towers\Fawlty Towers - 01 - A Touch of Class.srt
Press "Go Advanced" button. You can attach the file to your posting.
Here you are! One .SRT file with italic and bold examples.
Turn off the bold style of font.
It is an already supported feature.
Refer to the screenshots.
Thanks a lot! That was quick!!
I would never have found that one by myself. :) I'll have to study all these settings carefully!
Only one tiny problem remaining now. How to show the subtitles when the players is installed on the local network. Any ideas welcome!
Today I copied my KMPlayer folder to a USB stick and ran the program from there. And as I suspected, I got no subtitles at all. They loaded all right, but did not show up on the screen. Hopefully this will be of help!

Thanks, man! You're my hero! Works like a charm! Did I say THANKS!!? ;)

Is it an unofficial beta? Because it is not posted in the beta thread.
to Leif: I am glad, your problem got solved. Once you know KMP, you never let it go ;)
There will be a final bugfix release for an official version soon.
One minor glitch: when logged in as a pupil (with less rights than me, of course ;) I get an error message:
---------------------------
Fawlty Towers - A touch of class.avi - The KMPlayer
---------------------------
Access violation at address 1072867D in module 'gen_ml.dll'. Read of address 00000028.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
But then the program works OK.
Regards,
Leif
PS Did I say 'THANKS!!' KMPlayer really rocks! I've started translating it into Swedish. But soooo many lines of text. :)
Just delete gen_ml.dll ..\plugins\ folder.
Worked like a dream! Thanks (again)!
BTW, what did I (or rather my pupils) "lose" by deleting that .DLL?
Have a nice weekend!
Nothing if you do not use media library. You can empty the plugin folder wholly.
