i have a dvd image mounted in daemon tools. then i try to play using 'open dvd standard device'. plays ok. however when i try to seek the movie (when i click on the horizontal "scroll bar" thingy) the movie:

a) plays a couple of frames (<5) and then pauses for a long time (10sec+) and then usually plays ok (it freezes rarely). when waiting for it to 'catch up' i can click 'stop', change preferences etc
b) player freezes to death and i have to terminate the process kmplayer.exe

that also happens when i reset kmp's settings

using:

kmplayer 2.9.3.1214
Oceans.Eleven.2001.PAL.DVDR.iNTERNAL-sTOs

Download the newest beta - .1302

newest beta (1305) didn't help. in fact, it seems like i have to wait a lot longer than 10sec.

i should have mentioned that the .vob files are pretty big - 0.9 gb. i have already tried to fix this issue using advice from the following link, but it also didn't help.

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

any other ideas ?

It is a different problem as you are playing dvd, not a vob file.

BTW, it looks weird you have such a problem.

What about other players?

What about other players?

PowerDVD Ultra 7.2 BD Edition works flawlessly.

On the light side, for someone with a cz in the UN your command of English is impressive.
Your problem might be something for Z to tackle. Unfortunately (for him) he's still the only one on this forum that has complete knowledge of the player.

You had to be with the cz.
No, I'm better!

Powerdvd is not the one to be compared with KMP as it has its own dvd navigator. Try if it work in MPC, Zoom Player, BSplayer, and GOM etc.

It may be a dvd navigator problem.

ciukacz
06-13-2007, 07:41 AM
and what exactly is a dvd navigator ?
mpc freezes

mouse
06-13-2007, 07:50 AM
It is something like a source filter integrated with splitter (similar to haali's splitter etc) playing a key role for DVD playback. The default dvd navigator is the one shipped with directx from Microsoft.

Googling will give you some more information.

OK Ciukacz'u,

If I had known that it will take me almost 24h to download I wouldn't have done it but...

wow, you actually have downloaded that dvd.
could you post your results when using default navigator and dvd decoders ?

i have noticed that pdvd6 navigator + pdvd7 decoders (added via scan) help a lot. the player rarely freezes. still, after seeking i get extremely low fps (less than 5 fps) for a few seconds.

have you tried seeking with "3" ?

I'll try to run some tests later. I live in California so there is a 9 hour diff.
It's 13:42 now.
I have tried 3 and it will pause till finds the spot but nothing else happens.
The shorter the movie/clip the better the seeking is with the slider. With some you can actually go, almost frame by frame.
In order to make 2 work in reverse (reverse the action on screen), with regular DVD, I had to install the video/sp decoder.

I forgot to mention in the earlier post that you can also seek with the two rectangular buttons on both sides of the track bar. I think they're set for 5 sec. but that can be changed.

Waldemar Sikorski
06-20-2007, 04:13 AM
Obviously I didn't do enough testing.
I only have 1 iso file so can't compare results. I looks like Ciukacz was right about the seek problem. With the bar or buttons, usually when you seek more than once the KMP freezes.
I think this should be moved to 'Bugs'.
Posted results are for iso but simmilar problem with video_ts of the same file.

I've already tested it.
As DVD playback is a different subject, it'll take times to know the result.
Personally I think this might be possible to fix.

BTW, it's hard to answer the problem which I don't know well or can't confirm for some reason (e.g. lack of information and samples for the most cases, or just impossible to verify due to the testing environment).

As you may know, it is very time-consuming job to trace and figure out the problem. Once it is figured out, it is rather simple to fix. So it is natural that the well-written reports are considered preferentially.

Most of the problem reported from Peuj are fixed due to the comprehensive description. He knows what the bug report is and must be. :) It is very simple but most users do not read even the guide. :p

The author seems to fail to find the reason why seeking backward in some dvd causes the problem. As there is no special process with seeking, it looks hard to figure out in which the problem lies.

Same here. Seeking *ANY* DVD with mouse or keys is too slow - frame changes about 5-10 seconds later, while there is no such problem with other players. I reset all settings to defaults, tried various splitter/decoder configurations but nothin helps. I am using latest official (non-beta) version. Is it considered as a bug and fixed in later Betas?

mouse
06-30-2007, 11:52 PM
I don't think it is the problem of KMP as the player only provides dvd interface. In my own test, the seeking problem of dvd is still there with other dvd frontends of directshow such as zoom player. If there is no problem with other players based on directshow, you can try the same filters used in that app.

while there is no such problem with other players.
Make sure that it is not a powerdvd, windvd, or something else exclusively designed for the purpose of playing dvd.

ps. Try pgup/pgdn key.
