During the last several months I have upgraded to a new beta version about 4 times. Each time I update I re-enter my preferences into the new beta version manually (by hand). Usually I accidentally forget a few and and dont discover the problem until I try to play some media file and it doesnt work right. I also manually copy my Winamp Plugins from the older version to the newer.

Has anyone found an easier way to do this? Is there a way to more easily transfer preferences? Are they in a file someplace?

Is their an easier way to move plugins?

How do you determine when to copy English.ini from the older version rather than using English.ini included in the newer version? I have had to edit this file frequently (for example the global font size)

Any advice to simplify this is greatly appreciated

When you overwrite with a new version, you keep the preferences...

Else you can export the configuration in options or use the KMPCFG.ini options and save it or make a .reg of yours tweaks

Preferences are stored into the Windows registry: HCKU/Software/KMPlayer (there's an option on Preferences to store them in an .ini file as DeXTeRPuNk said). To reset Preferences, just delete that regkey.

Resetting the configuration and using a new folder is recommended, but it's not necessary every time you update to a new beta, only if you find a wrong/strange behaviour.

After downloading a new kmp.zip, backup your KMP folder and then extract the new beta on it, overwritting old files. You won't have to move your plugins.

If you extract kmp.zip on a new folder, Preferences won't change as they are stored on the registry.

There are also some installers out there (for example in Spanish ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) or French ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) forums). With those installers, updating your beta is easier.

About English.ini, I recommend you to use the latest included in the translations forum ([Only registered and activated users can see links]).
