View Full Version : KMPlayer Portable
Is it possible to run your great program from a USB Pendrive, avoiding to write setting on the hist PC and his registry?
If not, is it possible to made some modifications (directly by You or with an external launcher) to do this?
My question is because Your excellent program was in the "wish list" of Our site:
winpenpack.com
Some people is claiming for his portability and, if You are agree, we can prepare an external launcher to do this.
Otherwise a second (best!) option is to have directly from You a portable version of Your program.
TIA for your comment and/or suggestion.

By default, KMP is portable, just copy his folder.
For keep your personals settings, activate the .ini options in F2 / General / General / Store settings to KMPCfg.ini

Many Thank for this info (and sorry for my poor English! :-) )
So, with this setting activate you mean the propram is NOT WRITING AT ALL in windows registry and in "documents and settings/user" folders ???
This is very important for a *real* portable software.
My question is because in my PC I found some entries in: HKLM\Software\Classes)
and also something reffered to: HKCU\Software\Gabest when I used the program to see MPG files.
This means the software running through a USB pendrive must not influencing the "default player" in the hosting PC.
For a "real" Portable version All settings must be written in KMPCfg.ini or something similar .... but not in registry or other user places.
Is this possible?
OtherwiseIIF YOU ARE AGREE, we can try to prepare an X-VERSION of Your Software. No modification on program ccode, only a specific launcher that writes temporary data in host PC and delete them when KMPlayer will shut down.
If You want to have an idea about our launcher, have a look here:

TIA again for Your patience...
Hi DeXTeRPuNK,
I try to keep alive this old post, because I had no aswering about the possibility to create a laucher for total portability of Your wonderful player.
I use it, personally, since last post with no issues at all!
Please would You answer me (also for a negative response...)?
TIA for Your feedback

Can the new build 1434 be used in this portable fashion?
It's now January 2009 and I was thinking the current version are NOT portable. However, maybe they can be treated as described in this thread to be made "portable".

bastik,
I for one have been waiting patiently for a year or so for portability to be officially brought back.
I cannot wait for portability to return to KMPlayer. Make it so sooner than later... please.
Keep up the great work!
We all must wait. New KMP is coming our way, soon (tm) and portability is on the to-do list. So patience is really a virtue here.
Why doesn't KMPlayer support relative path for directories?
[This is needed for portability - see image taken from utorrent settings][Only registered and activated users can see links]
As of now, it automatically reformats relative path to absolute even when you change settings in config file:
