Problem with playing subtitles with new settings

I will try to describe the problem I have:
First of all, I don't know how to save the settings from the Preferences/Subtitles Processing/Font Style and Effect/Alignment section.
For example, I change the background color and the alignment and nothing changes when playing the video with subtitle... On the other hand, the Char Set changes do take effect. I don't understand how can the program be selective towards the settings...

How to save these changes so they take effect when finally playing the video with subtitles? Is it possible to save them only for a particular subtitle file, since I don't need the same setting for all the sub files?

Some options require restarting KMP and KMP does not allow settings per file.

If charset is the problem, just save the subtitles as unicode.
