View Full Version : Thin vertical lines

Hi guys. Some videos (often Windows Media, but sometimes mpeg) display thin vertical lines during playback. I can solve it by disabling KMP video transform Filter but I don't want to do that because this reduces quality in other videos (I don't want to keep switching it on and off).
KMP version: 2.9.3.1428 (but I've had this problem ever since I use KMP, I'm talking months).
A sample ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
In this video the lines aren't that obvious but in some videos it just seems like the people are behind bars.
Is this just a bug in the Transform Filter or what's going on? WMP, MPC and Zoom don't have this problem. Thanks you.

It's not a solution but... you can use those kind of videos as a condition to disable the KMP video transform filter in Preferences and you won't have to keep switching it on and off.

On the sample you provided I saw not one line. Can you provide a sample where the lines are clearly visible?
A snapshot perhaps?
I'm not sure as there is no objective data (like ctrl+tab info) but it looks like a specific problem related with the video filter called Gradual denoise. Check if it is used. If it is used, try to turn it off or reduce the parameter "Strength" of Gradual denoise in preference | video processing | Reduec/Add Noise | Gradual Denoise.
If you still have a problem, try to reset the player in preferences.

I'm sorry, I can't really find a good sample. The visibility of the lines depends very much on the colors in the video, but here's a second sample ([Only registered and activated users can see links]). When I put it on full screen the lines (across her face and across the words in the background) are very clear to me. A screenshot doesn't do justice to it (much less visible).
I just tried:
- initializing all presets
- another machine (different hardware)
- decreasing the gradual denoise
they made no difference (although increasing the gradual denoise gave me thicker vertical lines).

No not that. I tried to make a good screenshot but it's not very clear. It's way more obvious when I play the video.

That because you don't use the video transform filter. Could you enable it (it's enabled by default) and maybe confirm my problem? (F2 > Video Processing > Tab "General").
Change the resizing method.

Perfect! That solved it. The amount of options keep amazing me. Did you also get these lines when you put the resizing method to Fast Bilinear, z? If more people have this problem, maybe it's a good idea to get another default resizing method?

ouch, this artefact was very annoying thing.
changing resizer helps me too :)
THANKS!
why not to do the default resizer not "fast bilinear"?
