As usual you have to be more specific.

rewind is reverse playback. (something that you would see if you could set up playback speed to -100%).
Like in PowerDVD, when you scroll up with your mouse scroller.

Don't have PowerDVD installed so can't use it as reference. You have 2x4x8 FF/REW playback for DVDs and Fastplay or Slomo for other files. Which one are you referring to?

guest234 wrote "common video files", so he probably means avi, wmv, etc files. There is no rewind for normal files. Why do you need it? I personally just use the left arrow key to rewind 5 seconds back.

Yes Mad, but he also gave powerdvd as an example.

I'm just interested if a)it is hard to implement due to video format specifics or b)it is not present just because it is unnecessary.
Check the right answer.

I would say both... a) + b).

For future reference: to fully utilize the FF & REV in DVD mode you'll need a commercial codec. You can pause the playback and move the slider-works with some file types. Assign a key for frame back (frame forward is already assigned) and switch between frame forward and backward.
