No video

As of this morning, any time I open a video file, only the audio plays. The window expands to fill my secondary monitor as I have it set to do, but it shows nothing but black. No change when moving it to my primary monitor or restoring it to its original size. Frequently but not consistently, other windows that end up on top of the KMP window are temporarily frozen on the "picture." For example, when closing the Ctrl + Tab info window, the part of that window that was on top of the video's "picture" remained. When I move the player window, though, it usually goes back to black or adopts the image of the window underneath it.

I've reinstalled the version I was using, upgraded to the new one, tried other files, and downloaded a different player. Audio files open and play without a problem, video files are no problem in VLC, and all video files have the same problem in KMP. I checked all the settings and the options in the preference window, eventually resetting them, and at this point, I'm not sure what else to check. As I'm stuck with VLC now, any help is appreciated. Have you tried to change the video renderer?

Right click -> Video (Advanced) -> Video renderer

It was set to "Overlay Mixer (Default)." I changed it to "Old Video Renderer," and that seems to have solved the problem.

"Old video renderer"...? I think it's not the best to use.

Old Video Renderer
This is the default renderer of Windows 9x/me/2k. Depending on the visiblity of the video window and your video card's abilities, it will switch between GDI, DirectDraw, Overlay rendering modes dynamically. Not recommended.

Try with other renderers like VMR9, you'll probably get a better image quality.
