the greatest media player ever and the only feature it doesn't have is crossfader for mp3s. Why???? please add it!
Internal Audio Renderer crossfader isn't going to cut it.

KMP by design was to be a video player primarily.
There was a bloating issue. Now with a different developer, I honestly don't know where KMP is heading.

why does KMP have an audio mode for? if it was only intended to be a video player.
KMP focuses on video playback, but contains some basic audio playback capability.

I listen to mp3s on KMP. I use the 3d sound and freeverb, crystality on my headphones and it sounds incredible.
I listened to winamp before I listened to KMP. I had DFX with winamp and I'm like KMP blows away winamp in light years.

The playback path of audio files is very different from that of traditional audio players. KMP uses directshow for audio playback as well as video. Simply, directshow is for video playback. Other features like dvd, wdm/bda support but for playing vidoes are just addons based upon the video playback structure for a reason.
Although winamp can play video files, nobody considers it seriously as a video player. :)
