Would it be possible to implement the feature called "Intelligent Subtitles"?
The best description for it follows the one below:
If subtitles format specifies duration of showing subtitle string then nothing should be changed BUT if there is no definition for such feature then The KMPlayer could change the time of showing strings. The changes should be done automatically dependong of the length of the text to be displayed.
I.e. "Cat" could be seen on the screen for 1 second
"What a nice little kitty." should be shown for 3 seconds.
Imho delay should be flexible enough if you assume that the upper limit is the time between next subtitle and the current one.
Maybe there could bean option for the users to customize this feature a little bit by giving the hint: are they quick readers or slow.
On picture you can see this option from other player - ALLPlayer (marbit.com) ([Only registered and activated users can see links])

How to control the duration of subtitle without end time? - The KMPlayer's Forums ([Only registered and activated users can see links])

I know about this feature but this is not working in the same way as the one I've described. In The KMPlayer subtitles just stay longer (300ms for linked sample). In AllPlayer they do not only that, but i.e. can be split into two parts for slow-reading people. Theoretically it is the same, but if you think about the matter of the font size (for elderly people) you will feel the difference.

Actually, I don't use a primitive subtitle without an end timestamp. So I don't know the details. I thought it's almost same. How does it work? What makes the difference?

I thought it has been explained on attached picture. What else would you like to know?

It looks simlar in my eyes. Couldn't find any differences. KMP provides the details how it does work (character * xxx ms) while allplayer not. So it's unclear to me. Personally I thought it's useless feature as most subtitles have end time stamp.
Most of KMP users may not use the feature. If you want to see the feature improved, there should be an explanation enough to understand the feature.

I don't believe kmpkmp (new developer) would understand what you said. How does allplayer calculate the duration of subtitle?? Can you be more specific? In fact, I'll never use the feature anyway. It's not what I mean, if offended. :)

hmm, learn to read faster, or get subs that are correctly timed?

That function is built in. How would you like to implement it in KMP?

I guess he just wants to include this feature in KMP. Not to take it from ALLplayer. (stealing)
Well I don't use subtitles often, and mostly I can read fast enough. This feature "display length of subtitles depends on text length" could be nice. What's about the case that subtitles are displayed to long? The movie is at the second dialog, but subtitles are displaying the rest of the first dialog.... this subtitle management would have to be very intelligent. may I'm wrong...

The website claims that AllPlayer is the first one to use that technology. Logical assumption would be that the code was written by the developers and it's governed by the EUA.

This is exactly the way it works in KMP.

Than there is no need for it I guess.... I thought there were differences. ULTIMA PRIME said it's not the same.... I don't worry about this... I don't even care :p

I've mentioned AllPlayer only to show what I have in mind - not for shameless copy.

Subtitles duration is not the only thing. AllPlayer adapts i.e. font size too.
The best way to understand would be download AllPlayer and see it by yourself.

I've checked recently Subtitle Workshop ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) options for subtitles duration edit. I think that attached screen might reveal the truth behind "Intelligent Subtitles".

I have tested those IQsub feature in ALLPlayer some time ago and in my opinion it's useless. It cause awful subtitle desync in some cases even make them 'incomprehensible'.
I rather suggest something like old ffdshow submerge.
When two subtitle line overlap with, first one is displayed higher to make place for second one (sometimes third, fourth one). To calculate overlap it takes words count and min line duration.
BArtus, do you have any problem while displaying subtitles?

Of course I have ;) //sub desync when seeking with tablet ring //
But that is not the point!
I fought this thread is about IQsub feature (like in AllPlayer with I particularly hates)
