Background music versus characters speaking

I have a series of avi video files. Playing them with KMPlayer, the background music is much louder than the characters speaking - I can't hear it. I've tried watching the files with other players and with them it was ok. Furthermore, KMPlayer works fine with other video files. What the reason for this kind of problem? How can you solve it?
