Edit Avatar - "Unable to save image"?

Why am I not able to upload an avatar file to my User CP? I keep getting the same message - "Unable to save image" - each time.

I tried that too a few months ago. It was a small (100x100 or 80x80, a few kB, jpg) image. Maybe there is a problem since the forum got locked...
