kmp is a good player, thanks you.
but i find out that kmp does't support rm/rmvb files verywell.
it just can't open some of my old rm/rmvb file(from the year 2000,or even early) .
then i download come codec from freecodec and extract the dlls in the kmp directory, kmp plays fine.but crashed sometimes.
is some better way to do this?

RealPlayer 10.5 works well with KMP, latest version may not work.
If you can play those files, press Ctrl+Tab while playing and paste here the report obtained. Attach also a sample if possible.

do i have to install the real engine besides kmplayer?
I just download kmplayer and unzip it and run.
then i open my rm file.and i just can't play my file
the report is here.
thx
(there is realaac.dll and RealMediaSplitter.ax in kmplayer directory)

it is weird. i can play the same file a few days ago.
and now, kmplayer don't work for this file again.
on the same machine, the same kmplayer, the same rm file.
only a few kmplayer settings MAY be different,I think.
how should i change the settings ?

F2-> Reset Current Preset takes you to default settings. Like Pantuflo wrote in his post a sample might be helpful.

I also can't play all RealMedia files with the codecs provided by KMP. I think it's normal. I installed Real Alternative Lite and can play the vast majority of RealMedia files. I suggest you do that first. Removing rm/rmvb from the Directshow form via Options > Preferences > Filter Control sometimes helps too. I just have two separate configurations for that.

thank you.
i do as sajkko and Waldemar said, but it still don't work.
finally ,i find out that if i copy the following dlls from other player,KMPlayer open rm/rmvb files ok.
there files are
cook.dll
drv33260.dll
drv43260.dll
pncrt.dll
sipr3260.dll
I copy these files from the codec package from MPlayer.
Those are different than here:

Thanks a lot! I had uninstalled all my other media players after i found KMP to be working so well (including Real MP). But then rm files stopped opening in KM P.
Found this thread, tried out this solution, and it worked!!
PS: Here is the link for the MPlayer codecs (meant for Windows, not Linux):

I'm using 1428, since 1433 is not to my liking :(:o and I never experienced problems with rm/rmvb files. How about switching video renderer?
I'm using 1428, since 1433 is not to my liking
Would you mind explaining this? What is so bad on the new version?

1) Creating directories in Doc&settings
2) Writing to registry (couldn't install it without admin rights :( )
3) Not portable
And some others, I haven't found out yet... Sorry, I may sound rude, but I'm using KMP mainly for these features -> Portability, No strange folders(or directories as you like :D)...

I absolutely agree with Xyw13, especially with the point 3: KMPlayer 1433 is NO MORE PORTABLE. And for me it is not a good thing.
- Why the standalone version (7z or zip) has not been released?
- Is it expected to be issued in the future?
- Or the standalone version will never be released for the new version?
I believe I will not update to the new 1433 version, because I had chosen KMPlayer as default media player mostly for its portability.
Note that you can extract all the files from the setup with 7-Zip.

Note that you can extract all the files from the setup with 7-Zip.
Thank You for the answer. :)
The exrtaction with 7-Zip from "The_KMPlayer_1433.exe" (setup file) is not the same thing of the REAL PORTABLE (STANDALONE) VERSION.
The result of the extraction, infact, is different from the required file to use normally the software. There are about 50 file more than necessary.
---------------
I have also tried to install KMP by using the setup file ("The_KMPlayer_1433.exe") and I have set the Preferences to use the ini file, but I have noticed that the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\profile_name\Documents\The KMPlayer" is recreated every time I reboot KMPlayer. I have changed the folder path in the ini file, but that folder (and its subfolders) are recreated every time!
I have also deleted the "HKU\Software\KMPlayer\AlbumArt" REG KEY, but it is recreated every time I reboot KMP!
Then, obviously, it is no more possible to use KMPlayer as PORTABLE software.
Just try to use it with a limited user account. If it works, and the settings are saved properly within the program folder so you don't have to set it up wherever you go, that means you can use it as portable.
You can delete the $PLUGINSDIR folder.

I'd like to ask you, to make some old behaving KMPlayer. ->
- No strange folders
- Portable
- No registry entries
It can't be so hard, since it was already here, you just somehow made it obsolete :(:(:(
Thanks in advance ;)
