View Full Version : A call to an OS function failed

I am using build 1430 on Windows Server 2003 x64 Standard.

Open a video, change to full-screen (with 5 key), it plays all the way through and when complete, it rewinds and sits there paused (still full screen).

This is a media PC connected to a 52" LCD, so the screensaver is set to kick in after 2 minutes, which it does after playback is complete.

However, deactivating the screensaver and attempting to go back to the desktop, KMP is still fullscreen and is nonresponsive. Attempting to click anything in KMP (like the X close, minimize etc) produces an error dialog, "A call to an OS function failed" and KMP just refuses to do anything at this point. I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill the kmplayer process.

Pressing 5 again does nothing, nor do any other keys. This happens with XviD, MKV, MPG... any files. If KMP is resized back to original size (anything but fullscreen) the screensaver kicks in and KMP operates as expected when deactivating the screensaver and going back to the desktop -- if I need to take a break during playback, I will hit SPACE to pause and resize back to original size (windowed) from fullscreen, because the screensaver will go on but KMP will not freeze up when I come back.

Is the "call to an OS function failed" error an error in KMP or my setup? As a suggestion, when playback is complete, could KMP be made to go back to "original size" (or some sort of windowed mode) so the screensaver can operate properly and KMP does not lock up when going back to the Windows desktop.

Otherwise thanks for a great media player!

AFAIK, that OS is not supported. I can't reproduce your problem.

Enable "Close file when finished" (Right-click -> Playback -> Repeat mode/When finished -> Close file) to make KMP close the file when finishing playback and return to default windowed size.

Enable "Close file when finished" (Right-click -> Playback -> Repeat mode/When finished -> Close file) to make KMP close the file when finishing playback and return to default windowed size.
This is exactly the functionality I was wanting and it works great! Thank you Pantuflo.

Even though Windows Server 2003 is not supported, other than this one issue, KMP works flawlessly on it for me, beating VLC hands-down.
