The player works fine with my remote and keyboard media keys when it is the focus program.

But as soon as it is no longer the main open program it no longer responds. I know that WMP does it, so why not KMplayer?

If I understand your question right.... You can use the Winamp Plugin (Nullsoft Global Hotkey)

Options > Winamp Window > Preferences and enable Global Hotkeys

Now your media keys should work, even if another program is focused.

The function of the special keys should be already configured. If not you can do it yourself.

Report success. (This topic is more for "Technical Support", I guess)

I'm pleased that I could help you. I'm not complaining where you put something.

Is there a way to use a keyboard shortcut that gives focus to KMPlayer ? (a Windows shortcut won't work because if KMPlayer already has focus, then it will remove the focus from it).

Alt+tab? :)

Obviously :D. But this is not good either, because if you want to assign a key combination to a remote control you don't know the order of KMPlayer in the Alt-Tab list.

Alt+tab does not work if KMP is minimized to tray.

I haven't found a way to do this. I searched the configuration without luck. I haven't found a key to minimize KMP. Am I to blind... or do the keys "minimize" "restore" really not exist?

Options -> Show/Hide main window... with this command you can toggle between focused or minimized.

You can set in general preferences if you want KMP to be minimized to the systray or to the taskbar.
