I find that with some DVD's, the trackbar (and bookmarks) do not function. The OSD will display 'Moved (time)', but does not do so, and the trackbar returns to its former position.

This is a problem ("feature") of some DVDs that implement PUOs (Prohibited User Operations). Those DVDs are authored in a way that the user is not allowed to perform some operations, ie change chapters or move forward. If you know how to rip DVDs to hard disk, you can clear those PUOs with some authoring/editing programs like PGCEdit.
