Hi

Firstly my appreciation to the devs for such a incredible media player... great job , keep up the good work :D

What I want to ask is:
Is there any way to have 2 separate installs (a beta and a stable) running independent of each other?

I'm not asking if there is any way to run a beta and a stable simultaneously.

I just want to know if its possible to install the beta and the stable versions in different directories, and if there is a way to keep them unrelated (meaning that they wont share any settings)

I don't know it Hope someone can help you

If one (or both) stores it's settings to .ini... they wont share settings. (KMPCfg.ini)

Preferences (F2) > General "Store settings to KMPCfg.ini"

Thank You bastik.
I've not saved KMP settings to KMPcgf.ini. KMP(beta) has already made entries to the registry. Will these registry entries be detected by the stable when I install it?

If the entries made to the registry are settings indeed, then can they be saved to KMPcfg.ini & can the registry entries be deleted? Will my settings be preserved then?
Please tell me the registry locations (all) where KMP makes entries.

1. Sry. I don't know. But it could. If I updated to a new version I installed it to the same folder. The new one hasn't to be configured, he took the settings I've made before. I just don't know what happens when you install it to another folder.

2. I know that settings are stored in KMPCfg.ini instead of registry if you activate this. I don't know if the registry entries will be deleted automatically. But manually you should be able to do without losing settings. (If you activate the ini storage) To be sure that nothing goes wrong: Backup your whole registry. Backup KMP settings. F2 > Export presets (button)

3. I don't understand. The ini will be updated if you change settings (like the registry. KMP1 will store it to ini. If KMP2 stores it to ini too it should create it's own. (What happens with the registry if two version are installed is out of my knowledge.)

4. I don't know this. (The associated file types are located in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, but KMP is not the only program that associates with media files) (KMP makes entries in HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software at least). I don't know where the settings stored in the registry. IDEA: store settings to registry. backup the settings of KMP (with F2 > Export presets) name the file like you want (include the version if you want). Now open the reg file with your notepad/editor. Now you should see where KMP stores it's settings. If you can't select notepad for opening reg files use the open with function.

Please report success.

Your idea worked fine bastik.

I've stored settings for the stable version in KMPCfg.ini and the beta version has stored its settings in the registry (I wanted the beta to run faster)

The settings don't clash and everything seems to be running smooth, if there are any conflicts later on, I can uninstall both and install the beta and import my settings to the registry using the .reg file. ;)

Thanks for the help, appreciate it. :)

I'm very happy that something I suggested really worked. I'm happy to have helped you.

Have fun with KMP. : )
